While it was nice having a veg patch due to its shaded nature it didn't really produce as much as I had hoped. So I start to think about changing the space into a seating area.
I used the following guide on B&Q's website's website a useful resource and the video below which I used to reference back to as I went through the project.
Following the guide above I removed a fair amount of soil so I had a sufficient foundation depth which I could fill with a sub base. In the guide it recommends pegging out this depth. This is great tip as it allows you to measure out and maintain a flat base to then work with later one when it comes to placing the flags.
While waiting for the delivery of the patio slabs I took the opportunity to look into extending the wildlife pond I had put a few years previously.
The slabs I ordered were a standard 60x60cm patio slab. I'd recommend you get someone to help you lift these ones are they are quite heavy. After the patio was complete I put up a small pergola to hang some solar lights and bought some decking board to clad around the pond and seating area.
Before and after - cladding around the pond and patio area
During this project I got to transform and upgrade areas of the garden which totally changed the look and feel of the space.
